Sixty-six percent of population literate


 
Luanda - Literacy levels have reached sixty-six percent of the Angolan population, disclosed Tuesday the Education minister Pinda Simão.

 

Pinda Simão said this at launching ceremony of the National Campaign for Revival of Literacy.


The official said that more than eighty percent of the population living in urban areas is also literate, while in rural areas, the levels reach only 42 percent of the population.

 
The incumbent minister said that the Government is working hard teaching at least more than 87 percent of the population till 2016. The goal is to eradicate the illiteracy by 2025.

  
The National Campaign of Literacy was launched for the first time on 22 November 1976 in Luanda by the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto.
