Ndalatando – The 2012 academic year managed to enrol 6.842,416 students, from primary to secondary education, contrary to the previous year, in which were enrolled 6.741,297, revealed Tuesday the Education minister, Pinda Simão.
According to the minister, who gave the information when he delivered a speech at the official opening ceremony of the 2012 academic year, the growth rate of this sector is estimated at 1.5 per cent, thus, there is a need to recruit new teachers.
The minister said these data refer both to the public and private sectors.
Pinda Simão also disclosed that in the current academic term the number of schools will increase from 55.000 to 56.429, with a few more units still to be inaugurated throughout the country.
According to him, the government has been taking several initiatives to guarantee a greater capacity of response to the education sector’s needs, as well as to improve the performances.
The 2012 academic year was officially opened on Tuesday, in the northern Kwanza Norte Province, by the country’s Vice President, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.
The ceremony was attended by government officials, school directors, teachers and students.
