Luanda – The government's plans to eradicate illiteracy countrywide, with highlight to the Literacy and School Acceleration Programme (PAAE), are recording positive results, informed Friday in Luanda the national director for general education of the Ministry of
Education (MED), Luísa Grilo.
The source spoke to ANGOP on the framework of a workshop under the motto “Literacy and the School Acceleration Processes: A Brazilian Experience”, promoted by the Eduardo dos Santos Foundation, in the light of the "FESA 2010 Week" being held until next September 27.
According to the director, the government approved, in 2007, the Programme of Re-launching Literacy and Restoring Academic Delay, which later led to PAAE, which is being successfully implemented by MED, nationwide.
She stressed that the implementation of PAAE is contributing to a great reduction of the illiteracy rate all over the country, according to the recent report released by the Angolan Ministry of Planning.
“A report which was recently released by the Planning Ministry, through the National Institute of Statistics indicates that the illiteracy rate in the country dropped in the recent years, and at the moment this rate is fixed at about 24 percent of literate people in the country”, she added.
