Eduardo dos Santos University, Chevron partners

Huambo – The chancellor of José Eduardo dos Santos University, Cristóvão Simões, Thursday in central Huambo province, recognised the benefits from the partnership with the US Oil company (Chevron).

 

Cristovao Simões said so on the occasion of the hand-over of computers, printing and photocopy machines by the US company.

 

The donation comprised 48 computers and their respective printers and three photocopy machines and was intended to reinforce and improve the students’ research facilities in the courses of agronomy, silviculture and veterinary medicine.


 
The official considered Chevron as a loyal partner that will help boost the course of agronomy and veterinary medicine at José Eduardo dos Santos University that covers the provinces of Huambo, Bié (centre) and Moxico (east).


 
The chancellor welcomed the donation saying nowadays education and research can not be carried out without the use of computers.


 
He explained that Chevron’s donation is equivalent to two classrooms equipped with 24 computers each.


 
In his turn, Chevron representative, Mamadou M'baye, said the donation is part of a commitment of the institution towards helping renovate the computing laboratory of the faculty. 


 
He stated that since 2003 until now, Chevron has provided Usd 1.2 million to the Faculty of Agrarian Sciences.

 

According to him, Chevron will continue assisting the Faculty of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine, in view of the Angolan Government’s challenges to do away with poverty in the country.


 
He said his company is assisting in order for the practical component of the students’ process of learning to become stronger and stronger, seeking skills to respond to the quality required in the production of food.

 

A total of 623 students are currently attending the Faculty of Agrarian Sciences.
