Angola Telecom seeks to lead telecommunication fraud

fight Luanda – The telecommunication and multimedia company  "Angola Telecom" intends to lead the fight against fraud in the sector, taking into account the huge financial losses the firm has been recording.

This was said Friday to Angop by Angolan Telecom commercial administrator, António Briffel Neto.

The official said that this intention of Angola Telecom aims mainly at protecting the network and prevent unidentified frauds from using the company’s means to their own benefits.

To this end, he added, the company is creating technological conditions to identify and detect fraud on its network and will carry out actions towards the establishment of a national association of fight against fraud in the telecommunication sector.

António Briffel Neto stated as well that the company is considering the need for a regional anti-fraud association for the control and dismantling of rackets and permit the exchange of information among members on the various modes of operation of such gangs.

The creation of a new legislation that regulates telecommunication crimes in Angola, according to the official, is another purpose of the company, as the existing legislation does not make appropriate provisions.

He spoke of the various types of telecommunication frauds, mentioning citizens from Senegal, Mali, India, Portugal and DR Congo, as the main people involved in such scams, especially in Luanda.

Angola Telecom is the public company that holds the control over the basic telecommunication network.
