Agriculture Minister calls for increase of cereals production

Lubango – The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Afonso Pedro Canga, urged on Wednesday in Matala district the farmers of the southern Huíla province to increase the production of cereals because the government created storage conditions for production.

The official said so to the press after the inauguration of the referred complex in Matala district.

Pedro Canga said that it is needed for the peasants to increase the production, aiming for greater use of the created infrastructures.

According to him, the farmers are obliged to work more and more so that the programmes being implemented by the executive may bring positive results and guarantee the food stability in the province and in particular the southern region of Angola.

He recalled that Huíla province is an agricultural powerhouse and the Angolan government relies on this region to reduce poverty in the country.

The maize drying and storing agro-industrial complex of Matala district generated 30 direct jobs and 150 indirect ones.
