Minister speaks of investment in solar energy

Hamburg - Angolan minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, said  that the Government intends to invest in about 130 solar energy projects to cater for school, health centres, water pumping, lighting and other projects.

Addressing a 6th German-African Energy Forum, held on 22 - 25 in Germany, the minister  said the Angolan Executive plans to invest the above amount in rural regions with low  demographic concentration to meet the needs of the local residents.

To put these projects into practice and ensure people's access to this type of energy it is  necessary to create ways to encourage users, taking into account the condition of the most  disadvantaged people, stressed the official.

The Angolan minister also met with the Germany State Secretary of Economy, Stefan Kafaferer.

João Baptista Borges also discussed with Oil vice minister in Chamber of Commerce of  Hamburg, matters related to cooperation and strengthening of existing ties with other  institutions that attended the event.

During a visit of German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, to Angola in July last year, the Angolan  President Jose Eduardo dos Santos pointed out the fields of hydropower as a priority in cooperation with Germany.
