Luanda – The Angolan minister of Geology, Mining and Industry, Joaquim David, said Monday in Luanda that the country has a project for construction of a new metallurgy built in central Kwanza Sul province.
"There already exist agreements in the trade field and at this moment we are discussing the funding", said Joaquim David, during a visit to the Angolan Society of Metallurgy, LDA, and the Gunpowder and Explosive Company of Angola.
According to the official, Metallurgy has, at this moment, enough equipment to operate with available energy, stressing that the referred equipment allow to produce about 60,000 tonnes of steel/year.
He also acknowledged that the improvement achieved currently is not enough as yet. "We can estimate that the national needs stand between 500,000 and 700,000 tonnes per year, and this calls for a new ironwork factory with a view to Increasing the domestic capacity and export the surplus," the minister stressed.
On the other hand, Joaquim David said that the Explosive Company is an important factory that contributes to an increased activity in mining field and production of building materials.
