Luanda - The State secretary of Industry, Kiala Gabriel said Wednesday in Luanda that the Intellectual Property in Angola, coupled with the agricultural potential and mineral resources, can allow the promotion of typical products, providing greater income to farmers and attracting investment in the agro-processing. 


 
He said that this helps transform the local small producer of supplier of raw materials to exporting processed products of quality, adding the value, creating jobs and combating poverty.

 

Kiala Gabriel, who was speaking at the opening ceremony of the National Conference on Intellectual Property, recalled that the economic development of the countries is based on knowledge and innovation which is possible only if we invest in research and promotion of human capital. 


 
The official reported that the re-launching programme of manufacturing industry that is being implemented will contribute to the country's economic growth and lead Angola to less dependent on imports to exporting of goods of advanced technological content. 


  
To this purpose, he called for the need to create instruments that allow the harmonious exercise of economic, scientific, technological and cultural activities through the effective protection of intellectual property.

 

The two day-event will examine the strategic use of intellectual property for the economy, the traditional knowledge and its importance for Africa, patents and innovation system as well as identifying businesses as a tool for market expansion. 


 The opening ceremony was attended by the minister of Culture, Rosa Cruz e Silva, the Deputy Justice Minister Ana Carlos Canene, Secretary of State for Higher Education, Adão do Nascimento.

 

MPs, government officials, magistrates, economic operators, religious leaders and representatives of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) also attended the opening session.
