Luanda - The number of mobile-phone users in Angola has increased from 30 to eight million, coupled with the market liberalization in the 1990s, said Monday here the national director of Telecommunications, Pedro Mendes de Carvalho.
The growth of mobile subscribers, in particular, fits the Government's goals which is intended to offer services of good quality, good price and benefiting all regions of the country, said the official to the press at the meeting of experts of Telecommunications, Mail and Information Technology and Communication from the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Pedro de Carvalho expressed optimism that the event, which will culminate with the meeting of SADC ministers, addresses strategies that will lead to the positive impacts on the lives of citizens in the region.
According to him, Angola will propose the approach of issues of particular importance as the technological development, migration from analogue to digital television, the situation of defence of the consumers’ rights who use the Communication Services in Angola and elsewhere in the region Attended the opening ceremony of the meeting of SADC experts, that was presided over by the Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology, José da Rocha, were deputy Minister of the sector, Pedro Sebastião Teta, and Director of the infrastructures of the region, Remmy Makumbe, among others.
The meeting of experts will run until Wednesday. On Thursday, the last day of the event, is reserved for the meeting of Ministers of Telecommunications and Information Technologies of SADC.
