Luanda – The 26th regional conference of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), set to take place in the country on May 06-07 is “very important”, said Wednesday here the director-general of the institution, Jacques Diouf, on his arrival in the country to participate in the event.
According to the official, the meeting is particularly important since it is the first regional conference in light of the FAO reform programme, which determines that regional conferences need to have greater responsibility, particularly in terms of setting priorities to prepare for international decision-making process all over the world.
The Director-General seized the occasion to thank the Angolan Head of State and the government for hosting the event which will discuss problems concerning the African farming sector.
Regarding Angola taking up the leadership of the FAO regional committee, Jacques Diouf said that it is great achievement having into account the peace being lived in the country, and also the priority that is being given to economic growth and social development.
During his stay in the country, FAO’s Director-General is expect to hold some bilateral meetings with government officials to analyse the cooperation between the Angolan state and this UN agency, “which keeps a very extensive cooperation with the country and is seeking to improve it”.
