Luanda – The priority of the Angolan government in the alleviation of poverty is based on the implementation of the rural development integrated programme and fight against poverty, as well as on the food and nutritional security strategy.
This was recently said in Luanda by the secretary of State for Rural Development, Filomena Delgado.
The official said so during a roundtable on “Parliaments’ roles to enforce the respect of women’s rights fifteen years after Beijing”, when she was addressing the theme “The fight against poverty and women empowerment in the light of Beijing platform”.
According to her, the strong demographic pressure resulting in a high rate of fertility, the destruction and degradation of economic and social infrastructures and the poor functioning of services like education, health and social production are the main causes of poverty.
The secretary of State pointed out as priority intervention areas to fight against poverty, the social integration based on the assistance to most needy population, food security and rural development.
She considered as fundamental to secure an adequate macroeconomic environment with the stability of the currency, moderate interest rates and free exchange rate.
The roundtable was organised by the 7th commission of the National Assembly in the ambit of the celebrations of the International Women’s Day, marked on March 8, 2010.
