Lack of rains may harm harvest in Tchindjendje

Huambo - The lack of rains occurred in the last fortnight in Tchindjendje, 70 miles west of central highland Huambo town, may harm at least 30 per cent the maize and bean harvest, the local head of the land development station (EDA) told Angop today.

Alcino Maurício warned that lack of rains is damaging the maize and beans plantations, antecipating poor harvest of these grains in the region.

Tchindjendje has not seen a single rain since February 25 mr. Mauricio stated adding that EDA is now suggesting the farmers to sow other products like greens and banana, which better endure the lack of rains.

In the last agriculture season Tchindjendje farmers ploughed 10750 hectares for maize, bean and greens.
