Luanda
Agriculture to produce two million tones of cereals

Luanda – Angola Agriculture Ministry is to create conditions to allow a short term production of two million tons of cereals per year, said Saturday in Kibala district, central Kwanza Sul province, the minister of Agriculture, Afonso Pedro Canga.

According to the minister who was speaking to the media during a field trip to Mato Grosso Camana farm, with this figure, the sector intends to overcome the current production, estimated at 1.8 million of tons.

Pedro Canga said that one of the purposes of the programme is to reach food self sufficiency in Angola, hence  the need for increased  maize production seeking to reduce the cereals deficit estimated at 700,000 tons per year.

The visit aimed also at promoting a dialogue between producers, businesspeople, government officials and financial institutions, as well as agriculture officials.

The activity was promoted by Angola Maize Producers Association “Epungo” in partnership with the Agriculture Ministry and Kwanza Sul province Government.
