Mobile-phone operator Unitel invests USD 100 million


Huambo,  - The mobile-phone operator Unitel will, by late this year, link through fibre optic cable the provinces of Luanda, Huambo, Huíla and Benguela, assured Tuesday, in Huambo city, its director-general, Amilcar Safeca.

 

The company’s manager, who was speaking at the end of a meeting with Huambo governor, Albino Malungo, said that it is a nation-wide project, estimated at USD 100 million.

 

He explained that the Project aims at guaranteeing the firm’s land telecommunication signal transmission among the country’s main population centres, adding that the first phase will includes the interlinking among Luanda, Huambo, Huíla and Benguela.

 

The project, he said, will replace data reception and transmission services through satellites.

 

"For the company, the satellite transmission system is no longer a suitable means, so there is a need for investment in transmission means through fibre optic cable", sustained the source.

 

Concerning the implementation of other projects in the province of Huambo, Amílcar Safeca said that it is underway a Unitel’s services expansion programme to all districts.

 

"Soon, we will establish the communications in the district of Ucuma and by the end of the year we will have 90 percent of the province covered with the services", he guaranteed.
