Namibe – At least USD 3.2 million were invested throughout the year 2009 in the rehabilitation of the Port of the southwest Namibe Province, thus enabling the reclassification and improvement of the first 240 metres of the wharf.
According to the director of Namibe Port, Bento da Paixão dos Santos, who was speaking last Tuesday during the yearend greetings ceremony, the port got equipment with its own funds to implement this process with success.
According to Bento da Paixão, these investments enabled the increase of the cargo from 900.000 tons in 2008, to the current 1,40 million tons in 2009.
“Our action plan for 2010 expects to keep the production levels achieved in 2009 and calls the attention of our employees to be committed to the increase of the production and productive levels”, the official said.
