Government to create timber transforming industries in Angola

Luanda – The Angolan government expects in a short term to install and rebuild in the country’s 18 provinces big and small industries for exploring and transforming timber.

This was announced this Saturday in Luanda by the Agriculture deputy minister for forest resources area, André de Jesus Moda.

Speaking at the public presentation of the mobile saw-mills acquired in Germany, the official stated that in the ambit of his responsibilities regarding forests exploration, the government has drafted a multi-sectorial diagnosis for the perception of the current situation and the sustainable renewal of the forest resources.

In the sequence of this diagnosis, the deputy minister said that the Ministry of Agriculture drafted a programme destined, among other aims, for the establishment of industries of timber exploration and transformation in the country, in whose area national and foreign private sectors want to invest.

According to him, governmental private actions need to have as goals the diversification and the increase of the production and supply of internal goods and services, the renewal of the rural economy and the economic and commercial circuits, as well as the eradication of hunger, misery and the reduction of unemployment.

During the event, seven mobile saw-mills from Germany were presented and they have the capacity to process eight cubic metres per day.

These saw-mills, which are estimated at Euros 45.000 each, were bought by the Angolan government in the ambit of the project to Boost Forests Exploration and Semi-Transforming industries in the Rural Area.

In the framework of this project, mobile saw-mill operators from the provinces of Bié, Bengo, Kwanza Sul, Kwanza Norte, Malanje, Moxico and Uíge are attending a training course since this Saturday until the first fortnight of December.

The course is being taught by German trainers.

The event was attended by the director general of the Forest Development Institute (IDF), Tomas Pedro Caetano, heads of the agrarian sector departments, representatives of the training and technical assistance company (Cavex), among other guests.
