Fisheries minister hands over boats in Kuito Kuanavale District

Menongue - The Fisheries minister, Salomão Xirimbimbi, last Friday in Kuito Kuanavale District, in the south-eastern Kuando Kubango Province, handed over 10 motor-boats to the fishermen cooperative of this locality.

During the handover ceremony, the minister said that this is a guideline from the Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, to support the boosting of freshwater fishing in Kuando Kubango Province, having into account the importance of this region in the country.

Thus, the Angolan government thought of organising the population in cooperatives and associations, so as to make an  orderly distribution of the boats and contribute to the improvement of people’s living standards by fighting hunger and creating more jobs, he said.

According to Salomão Xirimbimbi, the other big objective of the Angolan government in this action is to reduce poverty among the population.

Moreover, the minister advised the fishermen to make profitable use of the received boats so that they can have some savings to invest in their children’s studies and needs.

During his stay in this region, the minister was accompanied by the provincial governor, Eusébio de Brito Teixeira.
