Luanda - The deputy minister of Sports, Albino da Conceição, said Friday in Luanda that the use of sports sites in the country exceeded their social purpose during the armed conflict.
Lecturing at the workshop sponsored by his Ministry on the theme "The state of infrastructures in the country, their use for development of sports," the official said that over the period of war some facilities had been turned into sheltering centres to host displaced people.
While other sporting sites served as warehouses and classrooms.
In the last decade, under the statement of the President Jose Eduardo dos Santos on the use of sport, the government implemented the construction and reconstruction of sports facilities throughout the country.
According to Albino da Conceição, in 2007 the government built over 200 football fields almost in all districts of the country, in the context of participation of the Angolan national team in 2006 World Cup in Germany.
The official also spoke of the construction of four stadiums that hosted the African Cup of the Nations (CAN2010) and rehabilitation of 11 fields to support the event.
