Luanda – Portugal’s Benfica defeated Wednesday night the team of Stars of Luís Figo Foundation by 5-1, in a solidarity match dubbed “A gesture against hunger”, with the Angolan Mantorras scoring one goal on the 77th minute.
The most important was the fact that the solidarity gesture attracted more than 33,000 people to Luz Stadium, but the game served to bring back various faces which represented Benfica, such as Roger, Petit and Rui Costa, also with the intention of honouring Pedro Mantorras.
The former striker of the Sable Antelopes (Angola’s national senior team) was much applauded, in his last game for Benfica, which might also be his last professional match, since he has recently manifested his retirement from football.
Dwight Yorke scored a penalty in the last minutes for the opposition team.
