Luanda – The Angolan senior males basketball team will face South Korea on Friday, in the USA, ahead of the preparation for the Turkey World Cup, which will happen from 28 August to 12 September, ANGOP has learnt.
The Angolan team, who are on a training programme in the United States since last Saturday, beat the local School of California on Tuesday, by 127-70, in their first friendly game, as informed by the squad’s co-ordinator, Nuno Teixeira.
On Wednesday the squad held a training session focussed on physical aspects, aimed to bring about technical and tactical harmony among the athletes.
According to Nuno Teixeira, the team are motivated and the works have been focussing on corrections and improvements during the control games held in Luanda.
“The players have been showing motivating commitment, there is a good environment and they give assurance that they might achieve a better result compared to the last championship”, said Nuno Teixeira, adding that the objective is to do the same or better in relation to the ninth position achieved in the 2006 World Cup, in Japan.
After this programme in the USA, the national team will travel to Brazil to participate in an international tournament, afterwards ending their training tour in Italy.
In the Turkey World Cup, Angola are in Group A with Germany, Argentina, Jordan, Serbia and Australia.
