African disabled athletes to attend high performance academy abroad

Luanda – African disabled athletes will attend as from 2011 training and high performance academies in the United States of America and England.

This programme is part of an agreement of understanding between the African Confederation for Disabled People (ASCOD), led by the Angolan Leonel da Rocha Pinto, and by the International Paralympics Committee (IPC).

This information was given to ANGOP on Thursday by Leonel Pinto, when he was making a balance of his participation in the IPC congress, which has recently ended in Vancouver, Canada.

The official said that an assessment committee will be created so as to select athletes that will benefit from the accord, in accordance with some requirements such as age, academic qualification, sport performance, knowledge of English.

According to him, the initiative is aimed at providing better training conditions to African athletes so that each athlete may participate in the event that will be hosted by London.
