New stadiums naming followed public tender- minister

Luanda – The designation of the football stadiums being built in four Angolan cities to host the African Cup of Nations (CAN2010) resulted from a public tender floated by Government concerned institutions.

This was said Sunday in Luanda by Angolan minister of Youth and Sports, Gonçalves Muandumba.

The Government official was speaking to Angop in his capacity as deputy coordinator of the the Ministerial Monitoring Commission of the CAN2010 Organising Committee (COCAN).

According to him, following an examination of bids put up for the naming of the stadiums of Luanda, Benguela, Cabinda and Huila, the decision was that they should be called “11 de Novembro”, “Ombaka”, “Chiasi” and “Tundavala”, respectively.

The minister said as well that the names of the stadiums were endorsed by the Cabinet Council, a body chaired by the head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos.

The names of the stadiums were announced recently, during an official parliamentary presentation by the minister of the state of preparations for the African Football Cup of Nations.
