Luanda - The Angolan Football Federation (FAF) considered fair the African Confederation of Football (CAF)’s decision to maintain four teams in the continental clubs competition, said Monday in Luanda the chairperson of the Central Council of Referees (CCAFA), Jorge Mário Fernandes.
He said that the decision did not favour anyone, but it has restored the right that belongs to the Angolan football.
The continent's body notified the Angolan federation to only register two teams in the African competitions, namely the first division champions and the winners of the Angolan Cup.
However, the decision was reversed during an executive meeting held in Lumbumbashi, DR Congo, which was presided over by Issa Hayatou, and attended by FAF's chairperson, Justino Fernandes.
There, the CAF managing board decided to maintain four teams in the Afro-Cups, instead of the initial two.
Jorge Mário Fernandes advised the clubs: Petro de Luanda (national champions), Recreativo do Libolo (runners up), Benfica de Luanda and the winner of the Angola Cup, to be known after the final between 1º de Agosto and Sagrada Esperança, to behave well during CAF competitions in order to dignify the country's ranking in CAF.
