World Cup trophy presented to Angolan head of State

Luanda – The trophy for the 2010 FIFA World Cup of June in South Africa was presented to Angolan head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, Tuesday in Luanda.

In the presence of Angolan Sport minister, Gonçalves Muandumba, and senior officials of the president’s office, the trophy in Luanda since Sunday evening is being carried by a FIFA delegation led by Chadian Emanuel Marada, on a tour of Africa promoted by the sponsoring Coca-Cola company.

The trophy is 36.8 centimetres tall, weighs 6,2 kg and is made of 18 carat of solid gold.

José Eduardo dos Santos raised the trophy and took a picture with the FIFA team and the minister of Sport, Gonçalves Muandumba, before receiving them for a 25 minutes audience.

Emanuel Marada told journalists at the end of the audience that the Angolan head of State sent congratulations to FIFA president, Josef Blater.

José Eduardo dos Santos, he said, is a man of sports, particularly of football, and the transit of the trophy in Angola that will host the next African Football Cup of Nations (CAN) will further mobilise the country for a dignified organisation of the competition.

In his turn, minister Gonçalves Muandumba said the trophy will remain in Luanda four days, unlike the other countries as the FIFA authorities consider that Angola has reached considerable levels of investments in sports.
