World Cup Trophy to strengthen solidarity among peoples

 

Luanda– Solidarity among peoples is the main purpose of the tour of the FIFA World Cup trophy  since Sunday evening in Luanda, a stage of a 70-day journey to various countries of the world, heading for South Africa, venue for the competition.

 

 
Speaking at a press conference Tuesday  in Luanda, the head of the FIFA delegation carrying the trophy, Chadian Emanuel Maradas, said the main purpose is to show it to the Angolan public and officials, particularly to the head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos.

 


 
According to the FIFA official, the presentation of the trophy to Angolan head of State was intended to honour the country’s youth, in view of the holding of the African Cup of Nations (CAN2010) in the cities of Benguela, Cabinda, Luanda and Lubango.

 

 
Emanuel Maradas stated as well that the trophy can only be held by the heads of State, FIFA president and captains of all national teams that win the World Cup.

 

 


Of the 27 countries so far visited, 21 heads of State have had the opportunity to hold the trophy.

 

 
The press conference attended by the director national of Sports, Raimundo Ricardo, representing the Angolan Government, and by the president of the Central Council of Referees of the Angolan Football Federation FAF), Jorge Mário Fernandes, included a session of photographs with the trophy.

 

 
According to the programme presented by sponsoring Coca-Cola company, the Angolan public will have the opportunity to see the trophy on Wednesday, during a ceremony in the Luanda Coqueiros Stadium at 6:00 pm.

 

 
The African tour that started in September this year in Cairo (Egypt) will continue to Namibia, down to South Africa.

 

 
The trophy is 36.8 centimetres tall, weighs 6,2 kg and is made of 18 carat of solid gold.
