Luanda – The national director of Sports, Raimundo Ricardo, said Sunday in Luanda that the presence of the trophy of the 2010 World Cup of Football honours the Angolan people.
Speaking to journalists at the Luanda “4 de Fevereiro” International Airport, the official added that the transit of the trophy in Angola stimulates the country, in view of the African Football Cup of Nations (CAN2010) the country will host in January 10-31.
To him, the visit represents a positive image of the nation and of the continent, taking into account the two competitions CAN (Angola) and World Cup (South Africa).
Raimundo Ricardo was speaking on behalf of the minister of Youth and Sports, Gonçalves Muandumba, at the ceremony.
The trophy of the 2010 World Cup of South Africa is since Sunday evening in Angola where it will remain until November 5, as part of its presentation to the countries of the continent hosting the competition.
The 36,8 centimetres tall trophy and 6,2 kilograms of weight, is made of eight carat of solid gold, being carried by a FIFA team on a tour sponsored by the multinational Coca-Cola company.
The trophy is on a tour of the continent’s 53 nations.
On Tuesday, according to the programme distributed by Coca-Cola, a press conference and photo session will be held, before the trophy is presented to the public the following day.
