Angola at 15th session on science and technology for development

Geneva - Angola is attending 15th Session of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development starting on Monday  in Geneva, Switzerland.

 

The event is analysing, among other matters, the progress made in the implementation of the recommendations from the World Summit of Information Society at regional and international level.

 

The country is represented at the meeting by a delegation that includes the secretary of State for Science and Technology, João Pedro Teta, the vice minister for Science and Information Technologies, Pedro João Teta, the Permanent Representative of Angola at the UN in Geneva, ambassador Apolinario Correia, science and technologies officials and diplomatic
mission personnel.

 

The participants at the meeting will discuss topics like innovation, research, transfer of technology for mutual benefit, collaborative undertaking and  development in the society of information.

 

Issues on free access, virtual science libraries, and other additional information communications technology and science, technology, engineering and mathematics to deal with development issues, with stress to education, are also part of the agenda for the 5th Session of the ommission on Science and Technology for Development.

 

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), that preceded the 15th Session, sponsored by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), on behalf of the United Nations, took place in two stages.

 

The first took place in 2003, in Geneva and 2005 in Tunis.

 

The works of the 15th Session of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development are scheduled to close next Friday.
