Luanda - The Regional Centre for Science and Services for Adaptation to Climate Change and Sustainable Use of soils may contribute to increased agricultural production as well as the mitigation of losses of crops, defended Wednesday in Luanda, the minister of Higher Education and Science and Technology, Maria Candida Teixeira.
The government official, who was speaking at the opening of the workshop on "creating the future Regional Centre for Science and Services for Adaptation to Climate Change and Sustainable Use of Soils (RSSC), said that it will also improve the overall condition of people's lives and increasing the security of Angola and the region.
In choosing and implementing projects, she added, there should be given special attention and give priority to those focused on scientific research, development, transformation and adaptation of technologies appropriate to the country's reality, so that knowledge is transformed into innovative products and processes in order to make our economy more competitive.
"The Government of Angola has outlined as development strategies the inclusion in its environmental policy program, based on the assumptions of sustainable development, embodied in the preservation of our ecosystems, the rational use and the use of clean technologies, as well as exploitation of natural resources", she said.
For the minister, the government's plan aims to create prerequisites for developing and diversifying the economy, without losing sight of the support of science, to a full service and finding solutions to better adapt to the challenges of climate change.
Thus, the Universities and Scientific Research Institutes should incorporate climate change issues into their activities in order to develop an interaction or substantial collaboration with future centre, particularly the seven academic regions of the country.
According to Candida Teixeira, with this exercise, it is intended to get contributions related to the operation structure of the centre, so that all SADC member countries are comfortable in the actions to be undertaken by them.
