Climate changes a challenge to planet's development - Minister

Huambo  – The Angolan minister of Environment, Fátima Jardim, said over the weekend in Huambo (cnetre) that climate changes are among the priorities of the world Governments as it is a challenge to the planet’s sustainability.

According to Fátima Jardim, who was speaking on the occasion of the inauguration of the first Centre of Tropical Ecology and Climate Change (CETAC) and the Ecological House, the Government has designed four programmes to tackle environment matters that will be implemented in partnership with local universities.

“We also have 56 projects that the head of the Angolan Executive, José Eduardo dos Santos, in an intelligent and wise way authorised, one of which under the climate changes programme,” she said.

Expressing satisfaction with the country’s climate performance, the minister reiterated the result of multilateral and bilateral cooperation signed with various countries concerning the exchange of experience, particularly in the upgrading of personnel to face the modernisation and environment integration, development and sustainability of the country.

To Fátima Jardim, the construction of the CETAC shows the growth of Angola concerning sustainability.

Built in nine months, CETAC has cost Usd 5.1 million and was covered by the Government Public Investment Programme to help in the drafting and implementation of policies and programmes of preservation of environment.
