Environmentalist calls for protection of manatim fish

Yeosu – The environmentalist João Seródio defended on 27 May the preservation and protection of manatim fish that besides Angola LNG project are Angola’s flag at the Universal YEOSU Exhibition 2012.


Speaking to Angop, João Seródio told the members of Expo National Commission that the specie is nearly in extinction in Africa, but luckily Angola has an enormous amount of it, but he did not disclose the current figures.


In 2010, staff of the Ministry of Environment started to conduct studies in Dande River in the northern Bengo province and neighbouring lakes of Lbéngua and Ulua, where the existence of Manatim fish was found.


Studies indicates that Manatim fish can be found only be found in the rivers Kwanza, Longa and Chiloango (Cabinda).
