Luanda  - The Environment ministers from the Portuguese Speaking Community (CPLP) have approved in Sal, Cape Verde, a resolution on new instruments of environment cooperation with a view to the conclusion until October this year of strategic plans until 2014.

The CPLP ministers gathered from May 2-4 to complete the drafting of the Environment Strategic Plan of Cooperation (PECA), the programme of activities for the 2012-2014 period and training of personnel for the promotion and building of techno-institutional capacity.

According to a communique that reached Angop on Monday, the session that is part of the preparations for the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development defended the creation of an international climate research centre for CPLP.

Planned to be built in Cape Verde, the CPLP ministers will submit the intention to the community’s Council of Ministers for analysis and approval.

At the meeting Angola attended with a delegation headed by the Environment minister, Maria de Fátima Jardim, the parties also agreed to set up a stand for the Rio+20 Summit, with a view to promoting their culture and deeds concerning sustainable development and preservation of environment.

The ministers also welcomed the fact that Portuguese will for the first time be used as an official language at a United Nation’s meeting.

The Sal Declaration, also adopted at the meeting reaffirms the commitments contained in the Luanda Declaration of 22 March 2012, that reports on the interest of the community to play an active and constructive role during and after the Rio+20 for the reinforcement of coordination and inter-sectoral dialogue.

During the event, the member states reviewed the fulfilment of the Agenda 21, and the commitments to the so-called “sustainable development”, that recognises the success of the programmes that have been implemented in the countries of the community, intended to improve the quality of environment and living of the populations.
