Luanda – The national director for Environment, Kamia Carvalho, mentioned deforestation, contamination of rivers and oceans, exploration of minerals and dumping of solid wastes as the country’s main environmental evils.
Speaking Friday in Luanda at a meeting between the Ministry of Environment and non-governmental organisations, the official spoke of the need for a change of mentality for the preservation of environment and survival of species, including the human being.
Kamia Carvalho considered the emission of greenhouse gas, destruction of mangroves and poaching as evils that can be dealt with in the country.
She also spoke of the need for awareness campaigns to discipline the population to secure a better future for the planet earth.
She said the cutting of mangroves in favour of housing and other projects are an environmental problem, given their importance in the protection to various species, including men that are actor of their own destruction.
In his turn, the secretary general of “Maiombe” Environment Network, Rafael Neto, recalled that his organisation has several environmental projects focusing mainly on the fight against fires, sound and atmosphere pollution and protection to biodiversity.
