Environmentalist defends more trees for Luanda

Luanda - The environmentalist Rodrigues Xaviers said Monday that Luanda is in need of trees, since it is a city with a high level of noise caused by traffic and other sources that affect people psychologically and physically.

Speaking to ANGOP, the specialist said that planting of trees helps to reduce sound pollution, because the lack of trees causes the noise to echo on the walls of houses and buildings, causing the sensation of a long-lasting sound, just like when someone is speaking inside a room without furniture.

The source added that the trees and other vegetation intercept, reflect, absorb and transmit solar radiation, thus improving air temperature in urban environment, and also serve as gornamentation and to decrease pollution, among other aspects.

He also revealed that wind also affects human comfort and its effect can be positive or negative, “greatly depending on the presence of urban vegetation”.
