Environment minister and UN official to visit Namibe

Luanda - The angolan environment minister, Fatima Jardim, and the visiting executive secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), Luc Gnacadja, will assess Friday in Namibe, the implementation of ongoing projects to combat desertification in Angola, namely in southern Namibe province. 

 

According to UN data, the Earth is losing 12 millions hectares of its surface per year, where 20 million of grains could be produced.

 

At a meeting today, the environment minister and the UN official discussed the angolan govwernment strategy against desertification and to reduce poverty with mr Gnacadja pledging  the UNCCD support to government's purpose to reverse and prevent desertification and soils degradation.
