Ondjiva – The Environment Ministry presented Thursday a study on environmental audit on the causes and effects of floods in southern Cunene province.
The study was carried out in 2009 and aimed at identifying the environmental impact, human and material damages, as well as listing the most affected zones by natural phenomenon (floods).
The document was presented by the consultant of Environment Ministry, Joaquim Pitas, who noted that the study will help the authorities adopt necessary measures related to the activities aimed at holding and relieve the effects of floods in the southern region.
So far, the floods have affected some 10,879 people, including 5,805 students who were forced out of school system and destroyed 400 farming fields.
