National parks excellent for scientific research

uanda - The national parks of Angola, which currently account for 4.4 percent of the territory, will soon be centres of excellence for scientific research in the fields of ecology, biology and other sciences of human life, said Tuesday in Luanda the minister of Justice, Guilhermina Prata. 


 
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the First Technical Seminar on National Parks of Angola, Guilhermina Prata, recognized the key role that national parks play in preserving the ecosystems, despite the need for establishing sustainable management. 


 
"The responsibility of Angola in the preservation and conservation of biodiversity is the creation of mechanisms to protect species and their habitat, and promoting the sustainable use of biological resources of the country where the parks play a role," said the government
official. 


 
While the conservation area, he said, the national parks have as basic objective the preservation of natural ecosystems of great ecological significance and scenic beauty, which can pave the way for scientific research and development activities in environmental education and interpretation. 


 
He emphasized that the holding of this event, organized by the Ministry of Environment, under the January 31, National Environment Day, reveals a new era in architecture development policy of the national parks of Angola, according to Justice minister. 


 
So she suggested the addition of private investment in the environmental sector, apart from the broadening of the public investment that the ambitions are heralded a success, a partnership with mutual benefits between the state and private investors. 


 
The new classification of global macro-ecosystems indicates the existence in Angola of 14 eco-regions more than the Democratic Republic of the Congo that has over half the African rain forest. 


 
The government programme plans to go from 6.6 percent to 15, the portion of the territory occupied by conservation areas. 


 
The provinces of Cabinda, Zaire, Uige, Kwanza Sul, Kwanza Norte, Lunda Sul and Lunda Norte and Huambo are the new priorities and locations with plans to create new national conservation areas. 


 
However, Justice Minister hopes to have this event to identify new actions in accordance with the national strategy on biodiversity adopted by the Government in 2006 and identifying the best methods of sustainable management of national parks. 


  
 Among those attending the event are technicians of national parks, the ministers of Science and Technology, Commerce, Maria Candida Pereira Texeira and Idalina Valente, respectively, the deputy ministers of the Environment, Syanga Abilio and Mota Liz,
vice-governors, some guests from Namibia, Mozambique, Cape Verde and representatives of international organizations. 


 
The event runs until Wednesday in the National School of Public Administration, in Luanda, with the completion of a round table on "Financing of National Parks and Conservation Areas".
