Luanda – The World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) pledge to see as from 2010, a greater connection between the meteorological services and the ones relating to civil protection and calamities management, in order to facilitate the sharing of useful information in the southern Africa region.
This information was given Monday to ANGOP, on the sidelines of the third annual meeting of the Meteorological Association of Southern Africa (MASA), by the top scientific official of the World Meteorological Organisation, Filipe Domingos Freires Lúcio, who did not disclose more details on the referred initiative.
According to the Filipe Domingos Lúcio, WMO, within the southern African region, has been supporting the implementation of various actions as is the case of the project dubbed “Extreme events forecast”, initiated in five African countries, namely Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, South Africa and Zambia.
Currently, this initiative expanded to other regions, due to the success achieved in the southern Africa region.
The meeting, which happens on 26-28 October, aims at defining strategies for the mobilisation of resources for the regional project of development of meteorological services of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The event is being attended by representatives from countries such as South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Botswana.
