Luanda – Awareness seminars and information on the Vienna Convention and Montreal Protocol will be organised from 15 to 16 September, in some province of the country, as part of the International Day for the preservation of the Ozone Layer.
To be marked Thursday under the topic “Universal Participation, Ozone Protection Unites the World”, Angola celebrates this date for the fifth time, since the signature of the Montreal Protocol, which consolidates itself as one of the most efficient multilateral agreements
established by the United Nations.
According to a statement from the National Ozone Unit, linked to the Environment Ministry, Angola joined the Vienna Convention and Montreal Protocol on 18 June 1998 and became a member since 17 May of 2000, to defend the Ozone Layer.
In the country’s capital city, the seminars will take place in the Polytechnic High Institute, located in Cazenga District, and at a potable water treatment centre (southeast of the city), where knowledge on ozone layer will be taught.
Angola is implementing the Montreal Protocol since December 2003 and has the duty of eliminating the use of Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC’s ) by 2010.
