SADC's meteorologists to get trained in Pretoria

Luanda – Meteorologists of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) will soon count on a Regional Training Centre, to be installed in Pretoria City, South Africa.

According to the director of the Mozambican Meteorology Services, Anastácio Manique, who was speaking to ANGOP on the fringes of the third annual meeting of the Meteorological Association of Southern Africa (MASA) in Luanda, the installation of the centre, one of the biggest projects of this organisation, will permit the training of professionals in the areas of meteorology and geophysics in the region.

Anastácio Manique also said that a common work in this sector will enable to overcome as quickly as possible various problems that affect SADC countries, mentioning common phenomena like floods and droughts.

According to him, Mozambique has a lot of experience in natural disasters management that may be shared with other countries, reminding that in 2000 and 2001 Mozambique was affected by floods whose consequences were catastrophic.

The interlocutor expressed his satisfaction with Angola’s willingness to join the Meteorological Association of Southern Africa (MASA), to happen until December 2009, by saying that it will give a big push to the association.
