British NGO tests new demining technology

Kuito - The british NGO "Hallo Trust" is testing a new demining technology in order to spedd up the landmine clearance process in central highland Bie province, the NGO operations manager, Joao Baptista, told Angop today.

 

According to mr Baptista the new technologies include manual landmine detectors GC 421 and Minelabs enabling a more efficient and rapid clearance.

 

He added that "The Hallo Trust" will extend the clearance of mined areas in central highland Bie, one of Angola's most mined provinces, adding that in the first half of this year the NGO cleared nine landmine fields in the municipalities of Kunhinga, Andulo and Chinguar, demining 233,007 square meters and reducing landmine risks in 1.720 kms of roadways, while 489 explosive devices were deactivacted.
