According to gen. Furtado, who was speaking at the ceremony that opened the celebrations of FAA’s 17th anniversary, on October 9, the spirit of camradship, devotion and dedication of the staff guarateed the stability, security and defence of the country.

Gen. Furtado praised the civic and moral education job carried out by the various organs of the units in the preparation of FAA staff for the election that occurred on September 5.

"FAA are faced with an anormous challenge and added responsibility in consolidating peace and keeping stability in the whole national territory,” the general also stated.

October 9 was the day when, in 1991, the first step was set toward the creation and consolidation of the national unified armed forces, within the framework of the Bicesse Accords, signed in Portugal between Angolan Government and the then Unita rebel movement.

FAA emerged from the merger of the former Government forces (FAPLA) and the dismantled Unita armed wing (FALA).
