Chief of Staff of Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), gen. Francisco Pereira Furtado

Luanda – The chief of Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), Francisco Pereira Furtado, Tuesday in Luanda, stressed the country’s political experience gained in eight years of peace, mentioning the drafting and approval of the Constitution and formation of the new Government.

Gen. Francisco Pereira Furtado was speaking at the opening of official talks between the Armed Forces of Angola and of Guinea Bissau.

According to the FAA chief of staff, during the eight years of peace, the Angolan Government’s efforts focused on improving the people's wellbeing and  living standard.


 
He stressed that the Angolan Executive, led by president José Eduardo dos Santos, is committed to the various activities aimed at rebuilding the country and its economic and social development, as well as political stability.


 
“The recent approval of the country's Constitution, promulgated on February 5, 2010, established the presidential system, instead of the former semi-presidential one”, explained the FAA general.

 
Mentioning the activities carried out by Angolan Government, the chief of Staff said that they  mainly focused on national reconstruction and construction,  integration of former militaries into the civil society and resettlement of displaced populations.

He also stressed the repair and construction of roads and railways, the enlargement of the school network, the country's health coverage and development of culture, sports and other activities.

António Indjai, arrived in Luanda on September 4, for a five-day official visit to Angola, as part of the strengthening of cooperation in the military field, especially in the sectors of defence and security which will be restructured.

 
During his stay in the country, António Indjai and his delegation will meet with high ranking officers of the Angolan Armed Forces Staff, officers of the Defence Ministry and visit some barracks and military schools.


Angola and Guinea Bissau have developed excellent relations of cooperation, both in the bilateral framework and within the framework of the Portuguese Speaking Community (CPLP) and of the group of African Portuguese Speaking Countries (PALOP), in such areas that include politics, diplomacy, defence and security, education, health and transport.
