Luanda - The ruling MPLA party said that the approval of the country’s Constitution has led to an important step towards the consolidation of the nation, strengthening of democratic and the law-abiding state as well as in deepening of representative and participatory democracy.

This is expressed in the party's statement, read by the vice-president of its parliamentary group, Norberto dos Santos "Kuata Kanawa" during the approval of the Constitution by 186 votes in favour and two abstentions and none against.

"Our country went through a less good moments throughout its recent history and this requires us constantly the need to promote the political, economic, cultural, social and training activities," he said.

However, the MPLA official pledged that his party will continue considering as essential the satisfying of constitutional guarantees of citizens in a more and more globalised world.

The statement also calls for the need to praise the former combatants and war veterans and their respective families, as evidence to enhancing their contribution extended to the Angolan nation.

According Kuata Kanawa, his party will do everything to achieve the objectives outlined in its programme of governance submitted to the people during the 2008 legislative elections.

The approval of Constitution was marked by the absence of the opposition UNITA party.
