Luanda, 01/16 - The coffee production in Angola recorded in the last five years a considerable increase, since in this period it moved from 1,800 tons to 5000 tons, despite the difficulties that still hinder the development of this productive area, as informed on Monday here by the director-general of the coffee sector company Procafé, Romualdo Traça Dias dos Santos.#

According to the official, the financial shortcoming of the companies in this field, is one of the factors that hinder the satisfactory growth of the coffee sector.

According to him, although the current production is not entirely satisfactory, the intentions of producers and the real capacities of the country, as well as the contribute of the governmentin the rehabilitation of the areas and infrastructures that support the productive sector, guarantee good perspectives for the re-launch and boosting of production, at medium term.

Romualdo Dias dos Santos underlined that the actions of the government, as well as the engagement of coffee producers in their activities and increase of production areas, are also indicators of a rapid and wider increase of family coffee production, in the coming years.

A source from the Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry (Minader) has informed that in order to reach a better coffee production rate, Angola should increase the production from 5000 tons to 10,000 tons, in few years.

Minader is committed to reaching this production rate, through the increase of its support to the big coffee producers, as well as to the public and private companies of this sector.

Angola was the third major coffee producer until 1973, with productions that went beyond 200,000 tons.
